Questions for Growth Groups and Personal Reflection

Read 2 Samuel 6:1-23

As you read the passage or listened to the sermon, what stood out to you, challenged you or stayed with you?

1. The Centrality of the LORD’s Presence (vv.1-2)

  • The ark represented the LORD’s presence among His people. How can I keep the LORD’s presence central in my life and in my church?

2. The Danger of the LORD’s Presence (vv.3-11)

  • What place does the dangerous presence of the LORD have in your life?

  • How might our lives look different if we were more concerned with ‘Who is among us?’ rather than ‘Who is against us?’

3. The Celebration of the LORD’s Presence (vv.12-19)

  • How do you reconcile the seemingly paradoxical truths that the LORD’s presence brings both danger and joy?

  • Why do these truths need to be held together rather than separated?

  • ‘Rejoice with trembling!’ (Ps 2:11). Could this sum up what worship is to you?

4. The Humility of the LORD’s King (vv.12-23)

  • Who are you most conscious of as you come to worship the LORD with others? How does this focus shape your response to Him?

  • How do you respond to this quote: “There are doubtless times to be calm and times to be enthusiastic. But can it be right to give all our coldness to Christ and all our enthusiasm to the world?”

Spend some time praying about the above.
