Questions for Growth Groups and Personal Reflection

Read 2 Samuel 7:1-17

As you read the passage or listened to the sermon, what stood out to you, challenged you or stayed with you?

1. The LORD’s Wisdom (vv.1–5)

• Can you think of a time in your own life when you pressed ahead with a plan that seemed good and right, only to realise later that you hadn’t really sought the LORD’s will?

• How do you discern whether an idea that seems good and kingdom-shaped is truly from God or just from yourself? (cf. Romans 12:2; James 1:5)

2. The LORD’s Humility (vv.6–7)

• How do you respond to the humility of the LORD in these verses — the God who chooses to come close, to walk with His people, to “tent” with them? (cf. John 1:14)

• Where do you most need to know the LORD alongside you at the moment — in your hardship, your uncertainty, your weakness?

3. The LORD’s Grace (vv.8–11)

• How does God’s gracious promise to David help you think about the ways God has shown grace to you? (cf. Eph 1:3-14)

• How are the two connected?

4. The LORD’s Unstoppable Promise (vv.12–16)

• How does knowing that neither death, nor sin, nor time can destroy the promise of God encourage you?

• Where do you most need the strength of God’s unstoppable promise in your life right now?
