Questions for Growth Groups and Personal Reflection

Read Colossians 1:1-14

As you read the passage or listened to the sermon, what stood out to you, challenged you or stayed with you?

1. Thanksgiving for Gospel News (vv.1–8)

  • Paul is giving thanks for signs in the Colossians that show they are genuine believers. How does this encourage or challenge you?

  • What is the relationship between faith, love, and hope in verse 5? How does hope laid up in heaven help us grow in faith and love today?

  • Where do you see the power of God’s word bearing fruit in people’s lives (v. 6)? Where do you long to see that fruit more clearly?

  • In what ways can you learn from the example of Epaphras (v. 7)? Who could you be “an Epaphras” to this month?

  • What might be one small step you could take this week?

2. Prayer for Gospel Growth (vv.9-14)

  • Why do you think each of the things Paul prays for in these verses is so important?

  • What’s missing from your usual prayers that Paul includes in his? What one thing from Paul’s prayer could you begin praying regularly for yourself or others?

  • Which of the phrases in verses 12–14 particularly thrills or comforts you today? How might remembering these truths shape your attitude this week?

Spend some time praying about the above.
