Questions for Growth Groups and Personal Reflection

Read 2 Samuel 7:18-29

As you read the passage or listened to the sermon, what stood out to you,

challenged you or stayed with you?

David's experience of God's words through Nathan (vv.18–21)

Place yourself in the tent with the Ark of the Covenant, knowing what God has

said to you through Nathan. How would you describe David's/your emotions,

your understanding of what is going on and your relationship to the Sovereign

LORD.

1. God's promises inspire a response

  • What part of your walk with God is based on knowing and claiming God's

    promises towards you?

  • How can you become more grounded in God's promises?

  • How can you encourage other Christians to increase their dependency/ security

in their faith and their relationship with Christ, by relying on God's promises

    more?

2. God's promises are unchanging

  • Do you think you could deepen your relationship with God by understanding more that God the Father is a covenant-making, covenant-keeping God?

  • How could you go about this and what security/assurance could it bring?

3. Responding in praise, marvelling at God's grace

Is this an automatic response, or how do we nurture it? What could the outcome be as we strive to do this?

4. Responding in petition, praying for the word of God

How does resting on God's promises affect our prayer life? Is this something we

should be aiming for?

5. The glorious new covenant

How does this account about David's walk with God spur us (who are under the

new covenant in Jesus) on in our faith? How does it help us to think about/

discover the similarities and the differences between the old and new

covenants?

Spend some time praying about the above.
