Questions for Growth Groups and Personal Reflection
Read 2 Samuel 1:17-27
As you read the passage or listened to the sermon, what stood out to you
or stayed with you?
How would you describe your own journey with grief? Do you recognise
the idea that “the more we love, the more we grieve”?
How helpful do you find it to put grief into words, whether spoken,
written, or prayed? Have you ever tried this yourself, or seen others do it?
When you enter into someone else’s loss, how does that shape the way
you pray for them?
David shows remarkable grace in how he remembers Saul. How might
David’s grace, and ultimately Christ’s grace, shape the way we remember
those we love who have died? How could Philippians 4:8 help us focus on
what was good in their lives rather than on their failures?
Jonathan’s love for David is a picture of loyal, self-giving friendship. How
does his example encourage you in Christian discipleship? Where have you
known that kind of faithful friendship in your own life?
What helps you endure the grief you carry today, or prepare for the grief
you know will come in the future?
Spend some time praying about the above.
